Keith Wyness tells Everton to reject Pickford bid after Chelsea news

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed fans are “really keen” to see Jordan Pickford remain on Merseyside.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the shot-stopper, 30, has “saved” the Toffees from relegation in three consecutive seasons.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (7 May) that Pickford is part of a three-man goalkeeper shortlist at Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 60-cap England international, who has started in goal for his country at the last three major tournaments, has kept 13 clean sheets in 37 league games this term.

He has racked up 278 Everton appearances since joining the club from Sunderland in 2017, and is under contract at Goodison Park until June 2027.

Everton must reject potential Chelsea bid for Pickford, says Wyness

Wyness suggested it will be “difficult” for the Merseysiders to sort out their Financial Fair Play woes without selling players.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think the fans are really keen to keep Jordan Pickford.

“He’s probably saved the club from relegation in each of the last three seasons.

“He’s obviously being looked at by other clubs, alongside Onana and Branthwaite.

“I think the Everton fans want to keep two out of three, but you don’t always get what you want in football.

“It’s going to be difficult to square the circle in terms of getting rid of the Financial Fair Play cloud at the club.”
