Premier League club plan ‘special acknowledgement’ for ex-Gers star with 143 Ibrox apps

Wes Foderingham is a name which will conjure up mixed feelings for many Rangers fans.

On one hand, the Mark Warburton signing was the Rangers number one as we earned promotion to the Scottish Premiership.

The former Swindon goalkeeper was also a penalty kicks hero as Rangers famously defeated Celtic in a 2016 Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden.

On the other, Wes Foderingham faced accusations of being poor against long-range shots with Steven Gerrard pointing to a weakness in the position when he took over in 2018.

Playing second fiddle to Allan McGregor for the next two seasons, Foderingham eventually moved to Sheffield United in 2020 after making 143 appearances at Ibrox.

And it’s there the goalkeeper is set to earn a ‘special acknowledgement’ this coming weekend as the Premier League club announce Foderingham’s exit.

Wes Foderingham is one of five players that Sheffield United have announced will leave the club at the end of their contracts this season.

That’s despite Foderingham playing in an impressive 29 Premier League games for the relegated side this campaign.

Joining the former Rangers goalkeeper is Chris Basham, George Baldock, Oliver Norwood, and Max Lowe as the Blades, like Rangers, prepare for a new era next season.

As part of the release, the Premier League club have announced that there will be ‘special acknowledgement’ for all the players set to leave Bramall Lane.

Wes Foderingham, who is only 33, has made 111 appearances for Sheffield United across his four seasons with the club.

#SUFC can confirm Chris Basham, George Baldock, Oliver Norwood, Wes Foderingham and Max Lowe will leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts this summer.

Special acknowledgements will be paid to the departing Bladesmen at Bramall Lane on Sunday. ❤️

Rangers goalkeeper position shored up

We obviously wish Wes Foderingham all the best as he looks to take the next step in his career following release by Sheffield United.

The goalkeeper has plenty of talent and experience, so we’re sure there will be a raft of sides south of the border ready to pick the goalkeeper up on a free.

But before any of you think it, Rangers have Premier League pedigree of their own between the sticks in Jack Butland.

Whilst there are plenty of murmurs around potential interest in the England hopeful this summer, Philippe Clement has been clear Butland is going nowhere.

Putting a pin in potential transfer links elsewhere, the Rangers manager has confirmed that the ex-Crystal Palace stopper is one a few indispensable players at the club.
