'Unattainable': Chelsea admire 26-year-old striker but he's not on the market - journalist

One striker who Chelsea admire is not currently on the market.

That is according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

In his column for Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, Jacobs claimed that Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez is one forward who the Blues like.

However, the journalist says that the 26-year-old is “unattainable” at this moment in time in a blow to Chelsea.

The club appear to be in the market for a new striker as they continue be linked with a host of names, such as Brentford’s Ivan Toney, but one man who now looks unlikely to move to Stamford Bridge is Martinez.

It is not hard to see why Chelsea admire Martinez, as Jacobs has reported on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea. The Argentine is one of the best forwards in Europe.

This season, he has already scored 12 goals in as many league games for Inter, helping them climb to the top of the Serie A table.

Martinez also managed to register 21 goals in each of the last two Serie A campaigns, showing that he is quite a prolific No.9.

Ultimately, then, we think he could have been a great addition to Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad as Chelsea look to bring in a new striker.

However, it appears that Martinez is not on the market, leaving the Blues needing to consider other options.

If Pochettino ends up with someone like Toney, then the former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur manager can still be happy.

Toney was in excellent form for Brentford last term, finding the back of the net 20 times in 33 Premier League outings. The England international looks capable of adding more firepower to this Chelsea side, who have not always been convincing in front of goal this season. For now, though, they will have to continue relying on Nicolas Jackson.
