Euro 2024: Palmer assists winner as England reach final

Chelsea's Cole Palmer assisted the late winner as England beat the Netherlands 2-1 to reach the final of Euro 2024.

The Three Lions found themselves 1-0 down after only seven minutes through a Xavi Simons strike, but were level just over 10 minutes later after Harry Kane netted from the penalty spot following a foul committed by Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries.

Following a dominant display in the first half from England, it proved to be a more equal second 45 minutes. And with Gareth Southgate's men in need of a winner - with Bukayo Saka just having a goal ruled out for offside - Blues striker Palmer was introduced with 79 minutes on the clock as part of a double change.

In the dying stages of the 90 minutes, Palmer unleashed an effort from inside the box, receiving the ball from a Luke Shaw cross, but his shot dropped wide.

But that chance was soon forgotten about as Palmer played a superbly weighted pass through to Ollie Watkins, who entered the fray at the same time as the Blues forward, and it was the latter who found the bottom corner of the net with an impressive finish. 2-1, England secured their place in the final.

The Three Lions, including Chelsea's Palmer and Conor Gallagher - who came on during the semi-final in the 93rd minute - will meet Spain in Sunday's showpiece in their second consecutive Euros final.

And it will be the battle of the Blues in Berlin as Palmer and Gallagher will come up against their club team-mate Marc Cucurella and his Spanish compatriots.
