Manchester City Are Willing To Cash In On This Experienced Keeper: Should Pep Cut Him Loose?

In a recent tweet, journalist Rudy Galetti mentioned that Manchester City are willing to cash in on Ederson this summer. It has been claimed that the Mancunian club are open to letting the Brazilian keeper leave with Al Nassr hoping to sign him this off-season.

Ederson’s Impressive Form In Premier League Football

Ederson had a successful campaign at the Mancunian club as he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the Premier League. The 30-year-old played in 43 matches for Man City last season, conceding 34 goals and keeping 16 clean sheets in the process across various competitions.

The Brazil international gave a good account of himself based on his average of 0.5 clearances and 5.6 long balls per game in Premier League football. He was even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back after making 85.9% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Mancunian club will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, Pep Guardiola has no immediate need to cash in on him in this transfer period.

Ederson can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing well on the pitch. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger by coming out of his lines and can use his quick reflexes to make a few world-class saves at the back.

The Brazilian talent has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and has the winning mindset to help Man City win a few more major silverware over the next few years. Ederson remains an important member of Pep Guardiola‘s match-day squad.

Hence, it makes no sense for Man City to cut him loose unless they receive a favourable offer for his services in this summer transfer period. At 30, Ederson is still playing at his best, so it makes sense for Guardiola to keep hold of him beyond this summer.

Another option for Man City would be to cash in on the Brazilian keeper as Guardiola can use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their match-day squad before the end of this transfer period.
