Arsenal chances of signing Partey are looking slim as look to sign relegated club’s midfielder.

Arsenal had identified Partey as their primary transfer target for this season. They have had links with the Ghanaian International for quite some time now. But it looks like the club might not succeed in their pursuit.

Arsenal over time has made approaches to Partey’s agent. The club was even in talks with his father. Also, Atletico Madrid is aware of the interest shown by the Gunners. But the problem has always been his €50 million release clause.

A lot depended on today’s FA Cup clash with Chelsea. Arsenal’s win tonight brought Europa League qualification. Europa League will help Arsenal lure players and also give a financial boost.

But in Partey’s case, it looks like Arsenal are going to face disappointment. Arsenal has already had a £25M + player exchange rejected by Atletico Madrid. They were willing to accept only cash for him. Although now it seems that Partey wants to stay at Atletico.

According to the Metro Partey has dismissed rumors of a switch. “I’ve grown up in Atleti and I am sure I will stay here,” he said. “I don’t know of another place that will understand how I play like they do here.”

Now the task ahead of Arsenal is to look for other players. And it seems they have found one in the form of Abdoulaye Doucoure. Doucore plays for Watford who have recently been relegated from the Premier League.

Abdoulaye Doucoure will be looking to leave after Watford’s relegation

Doucoure has been a key member of the squad for Watford this season. He has played in each and every game for the club in the Premier League. And has 4 goals and 2 assists to his name.

He sits as a defensive anchor in midfield for Watford. And Arsenal is in need of someone like that. Last year Everton was looking to sign Doucoure from Watford. And it looks like they still have an interest in acquiring his services.

According to the Express, Everton made 2 bids for Doucoure. One of them was said to be around £40 million. But Watford losing their Premier League place is bound to reduce his price by a bit.

But in Arsenal’s case before they try to sign Doucoure they will have to sell some players. Mesut Ozil is the highest earner in the team and hasn’t featured in a game since the restart. Guendouzi’s career looks to be over with the club.

If Arsenal can finance funds for Doucoure’s move by selling players, they can focus their attention on more important targets. Someone like John Stones, or Buendia or Coutinho maybe.

The point being before signing new players you need to make cap space. By offloading players who have been at the club for a long time and aren’t of much use now. Also one of the biggest questions being is Doucoure an Arsenal level player. Should the club go and make an investment in him will it pay off.
