Manchester United are playing hard-ball and demanding Inter Milan pay £15 million for their most expensive-ever flop Alexis Sanchez. The former Arsenal man is due back at Old Trafford this week after spending last season on loan in Milan, after they refused to extend it to cover their Europa League campaign.

Inter are keen on making the switch permanent but are struggling to match Sanchez’s £560,000-a-week contract that still has two more years left to run.

United have been picking up around £175,000-a-week of his wages while he has been in Milan and would like to get it all off their wage bill.

He isn’t in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans and offloading him would free up cash to be spent on other transfer targets.

But they are in no mood to discount the fee and are holding out for their full asking price even if it risks causing a deal with Inter to collapse.
