Manchester United are determined to land £130million Leicester pair James Maddison and Ben Chilwell as they continue to rebuild the squad

It’s been an awful start to the season for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s struggling Red Devils, who sit just two points above the relegation zone after eight Premier League matches played, and the everyone at the club believes there is a need for new recruits.

United’s hierarchy hope to stick with the policy of targeting young English players and Leicester duo Maddison and Chilwell fit the bill.

Solskjaer is set to be handed a hefty transfer budget in January, and while United accept it would be tough to sign both players, they are ready to push hard for at least one of them with a view to landing the second further down the line.

Both have impressed United scouts and reports have been compiled on the pair, who they believe fit all the requirements to be a success at Old Trafford.

United will face serious competition for Chilwell, who has been heavily linked with Chelsea and Manchester Unitd, but their priority in the January transfer window remains a striker.

Lyon’s Moussa Dembele is thought to be a target, with Solskjaer keen to add to his options of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial down the middle.
