Gunners are reportedly keeping close tabs on Salzburg striker Hwang Hee-chan. South Korea international has had an outstanding start to the league season, scoring five goals in seven games for Salzburg who sit top of the Austrian Bundesliga.

Hwang has also impressed in the Champions League and shone in the side’s thrilling 4-3 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield earlier this month. Hee-chan caused Reds problems all night and turned PFA Player of the Year Virgil van Dijk inside out to open the scoring for Salzburg on Merseyside.

The 23-year-old attacker’s barnstorming form has caught the attention of Gunners ahead of the winter transfer window. The report claims that both Arsenal and Crystal Palace have both sent scouts to watch the centre-forward this campaign.

It’s understood a host of major clubs from around Europe are also monitoring South Korean striker. Salzburg starlet Erling Haaland, who has also been linked with a move to Europe in recent weeks, praised Hee-chan’s performance after the side’s defeat to Liverpool.

‘Crazy, he was brilliant today,’ the Norwegian said. ‘He is so important to the team. ‘We have mixed feelings. We did well to come back, but we’re disappointed to have lost.’ On his partnership with Haaland, Hwang said: ‘We understand each other very well.’

Hwang is a regular member of the national team squad which is already a big success for the striker. He joined the Austrian club from Liefering in 2016. Hee-chan has contracted with Salzburg until 2021, and his release clause is around €20m. His price could increase and become much more until the next summer.
