Manchester City Chief Operating Officer Omar Berrada has aimed a not-so-subtle dig at Liverpool over their Champions League triumph in Madrid last season.

The Reds won their sixth European Cup in Madrid last season, beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final after trumping Barcelona 4-0 in the semi-final second leg at Anfield.

Speaking to Sport, cited by Sport Witness, Berrada said: “A lot, of course, but what we don’t want to do is obsess. It is something we believe will come.

“Of course it would give us one more point at the brand level, but it is a very random competition. Especially in the elimination phase.

“I would say that not always the best team wins the Champions League, but usually the best team wins the league.”

Liverpool finished one point behind Manchester City in the Premier League last season with the finest of margins separating the two sides domestically.

The Blues, however, once again failed dismally in Europe and were axed by Spurs in the quarterfinals.
