Pep Guardiola inspired his Manchester City players to the domestic treble by telling them to 'eat this f****** s***' after their devastating loss to Tottenham in the Champions League.

City were knocked out in heartbreaking fashion in the Champions League semi-final last season after what seemed to be a late winner through Raheem Sterling was ruled out by VAR.

Guardiola had to turn his team around in the space of 60 hours ahead of another game against Spurs which would have a significant effect on the title race with Liverpool.

In a new book called Pep's City: The Making of a Superteam, as reported by the Sun, it is revealed he said: 'I'm proud of you. I know you feel like s*** and you think it's not fair.'

Guardiola then said football was not fair and that it was not right when he chose not to select certain players.

And he pointed out how they would then go out of their way to prove him wrong when they came on.

The Spaniard then made it clear that the whole team needed to do the same: 'Well, that's exactly what we're going to do now. Eat this f****** s*** that we have to eat.

'Because we did everything to eliminate Spurs and they f****** beat us, we're out on our f****** a*****.

'Now we just have to fight for everything we have left, stand up and fight for what we can still win.'

Guardiola then called on the team to win the remaining two trophies available to them, which they went on to do — picking up both the Premier League title and the FA Cup.

City beat Spurs through Phil Foden to keep up their lead over Liverpool and won their remaining games before thrashing Watford 6-0 at Wembley.
